The philosophy of St. Joseph Catholic School is consistent with the Catholic tradition of the Christian Gospel message. St. Joseph Catholic School is a close community whose members help each other grow spiritually, intellectually, and socially in a caring atmosphere. The school acts in partnership with the parents as first and primary educators of the children. Each child is treated with the dignity and importance bestowed upon him/her by our Creator. While each child is valued as an individual, students are also taught the importance of being responsible, productive, caring members of the broader community.

School History
St. Joseph Catholic School was founded in 1955 and continues to thrive today. St. Joe’s offers preschool (3 & 4 year old) through fifth grade classes, and has a current enrollment of approximately 150 students. SJCS offers multiple academic programs including Religion, Bilingual Pre-k, Spanish, Music, P.E., and S.T.R.E.A.M .

Middle School Expansion
St. Joseph Catholic School is expanding its curriculum to include middle school. Sixth grade will be established in 2024-25, with the goal of adding seventh and eighth grades over the following two school years. The projected total student count for the 2024-25 school year is 185.

Job Description
St. Joseph School is looking to hire its inaugural 6th grade teacher as the school launches its expansion into middle school. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated educator who is excited at the prospect of working as an integral member of the middle school development team. This will require capacity for flexibility and creative thinking.

Preferred candidates will have 6th-8th grade level certification and experience, though all interested parties are invited to apply.

The school is looking for teachers who utilize current, effective, research-proven strategies to plan, teach, monitor progress and report performance, who use data to drive instructional decisions to increase academic outcomes in all students, and who employ culturally sensitive, responsive, and sustaining practices.

The applicant must respect and be willing to teach the tenets of the Catholic faith and be willing to follow all Diocese of Yakima and St. Joseph Catholic School policies and procedures, and demonstrate commitment to providing and maintaining a welcoming, safe, loving, and nurturing environment, consistent with Gospel values.

This teacher must embrace the core components of servant leadership, treating all students, staff, parents, and stakeholders with dignity, compassion and respect in both action and all forms of communication, and
maintain a commitment to working positively, professionally, and collaboratively with colleagues, students, parents, and stakeholders toward the mission of the school and Church, fostering faith,
excellence, and service.

Qualification/Skills
Applicants must:
● Hold a current, valid K-8 or other qualifying Washington State teaching credential/certification
● Be willing to responsibly teach the Catholic Faith and Gospel Values
● Commit to actively applying culturally sensitive, responsive, and inclusive teaching practices
● Exhibit capacity for professional, respectful, effective communication skills
● Have a high level of self-efficacy and adhere to deadlines and responsibilities
● Be able to employ effective teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students and effectively
employ data to measure student growth
● Be proficient with the use of modern educational technologies
● Have the ability to successfully employ effective classroom management practices
● Be a flexible and collaborative team player with a growth mindset
● Have a positive attitude
● Love working with middle school aged children!

Salary Range
$39,000-$65,000/ Yr. - depending on education and experience
